Meet the Band

Kate Hands: Violin

Kate has played the violin since the age of 6, and came up through Cornwall Music Service playing orchestral music. Once she reached the multicultural metropolis of London and she was able to jam with musicians from every corner of the world and her love of folk and traditional fiddle styles blossomed. As well as playing for ceilidh dances and Irish Sessions, a love of Romanian and Bulgarian folk music took her and her band Mukka across Europe as far as Transylvania and the Black Sea, to music festivals and folk camps, learning tunes and jamming as they went. Kate loves to innovate and has played in countless bands and projects from acoustic music to electronica, from kitchen tables to big stages at Glastonbury Festival. In music there are always new places to explore, new worlds to create.

Rich Baker: Guitar

Rich has played in bands since the 1990s, more recently playing guitar in barn-dances/ceilidhs and bass guitar with The Feuding Lloyds and Balalaika. He enjoys playing many types of folk music, including British, Irish, American, Russian and bluegrass.

Rick Townend: Caller, MC and additional violin, guitar and mandolin
Rick has played British and American Folk music since the 1960s, working with the Echo Mountain Band, the Armadillos, Grassroots and the Kent Carters, playing guitar, banjo, fiddle and mandolin. He has called for barn-dances/ceilidhs for the last fifteen years.
